Awesome Apple Crisp - your "Apple-a-Day" never tasted so good!
Delicious and full of Fall flavors, this amazing apple crisp is quick and easy, even for a mid-week treat!
Here’s the recipe:
Active Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
Ingredients:
Crisp Topping:
1 cp all-purpose flour
2/3 cp packed brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp salt
1 stick butter (chilled) cut into ½ inch pieces
Apple Filing:
2 pounds firm apples (4-5 medium apples), peeled and sliced into ~1/2 inch slices
Up to 1/4 cup water
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, or 190 degrees Celsius
Crisp Topping: In medium bowl, mix together flower, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the sliced butter and use your fingers to rub the mixture together with the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Place sliced, peeled apples in a 8 in. square baking dish. Drizzle water over apples (you only need enough to sprinkle on the apples and have a little pool on the bottom of baker). Crumble crisp topping on top of apples. Place in preheated oven on center rack for 45 – 50 minutes (or until crumble turns golden and mixture bubbles). Let cool slightly before serving. For a special treat, top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Yum!
Tips:
*Use an apple slicer for the apples to create uniform slices and remove core easily
*Keep butter cold after slicing (important to not let it get soft)
